CAMPUS HUB SA

Terms of Use & Privacy Policy

Terms of Use

The agreement between you and Campus Hub SA when you use the app.

1. Agreement to these Terms

These Terms of Use ('Terms') form a binding agreement between you and Campus Hub SA governing your access to and use of our app, website, and related services (together, the 'Services'). By creating an account, browsing listings, or otherwise using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Services.

2. Who can use Campus Hub SA

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Campus Hub SA is built for students, alumni, staff, and local businesses connected to South African universities, but anyone meeting the age requirement may browse and use core features. Verified student status is reserved for users who confirm a recognised university email address. You are responsible for keeping your password and account credentials secure, and for all activity that happens under your account.

3. Description of the Services

Campus Hub SA is a marketplace and classifieds platform that lets users create listings to buy, sell, or offer items and services; message other users about those listings; save listings of interest; follow business stores; and receive announcements and notifications relevant to their account. We may add, change, limit, or remove features, products, or services at any time, and the Services may look or function differently across updates.

4. Your Content and the licence you grant us

You retain ownership of the listings, photos, bios, messages, business profile details, and other content you submit ('Your Content'). By posting Your Content, you grant Campus Hub SA a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute it solely for the purpose of operating, promoting, and improving the Services, for example, showing your listing in search results or feeds. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where copies reasonably need to persist for backups, fraud prevention, dispute records, or as required by law. You're responsible for Your Content and must have the rights necessary to post it; you may not post content that infringes someone else's intellectual property or privacy rights.

5. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Services honestly and in good faith. Listings must accurately describe the item, service, condition, and price on offer. You may not impersonate another person or business, misrepresent your student status, circumvent verification, scrape or harvest data from the Services, interfere with or disrupt the platform's operation, or attempt to access non-public parts of our systems. We may, at our discretion, remove content, limit its visibility, or restrict access to the Services for anyone who violates these Terms.

6. Prohibited items and content

You may not list, advertise, or offer: illegal goods or substances; weapons, ammunition, or explosives; counterfeit or pirated goods; stolen property; live animals where prohibited by law; adult or sexually explicit content; content that harasses, threatens, or discriminates against others; or any item or service that violates South African law or applicable university policy. We may remove listings or content that we reasonably believe breach this section without prior notice.

7. Marketplace transactions and your responsibility

Campus Hub SA is a venue that connects buyers and sellers. We are not a party to, and do not guarantee, any transaction, item, or service exchanged between users. You are solely responsible for evaluating who you transact with, verifying listing details, agreeing on payment and delivery, and resolving any dispute that arises. We encourage meeting safely on or near campus and using the in-app reporting tools if something goes wrong, but we are not liable for losses, damages, or disputes arising from transactions conducted through the Services.

8. Business stores, bundles, and paid plans

Verified business accounts may set up a store profile, group items into bundles or combo offers, and may subscribe to optional paid plans that unlock features such as featured listings, additional listing slots, or analytics. Pricing, stock, and the accuracy of bundle contents are the seller's responsibility. Featured-listing tokens earned through referrals or included with a plan have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for cash, and expire or are forfeited if your account is suspended or terminated.

9. Messaging and communication

Our in-app chat is provided to help buyers and sellers discuss listings and bundles. Messages must comply with these Terms. Harassment, spam, scams, phishing attempts, and sharing of content prohibited under Section 6 are not permitted. We may review conversations that are reported to us in order to investigate suspected violations or keep the community safe.

10. Student verification

Student verification is offered in good faith to help build trust on the platform. Submitting another person's university email address, falsifying your student status, or otherwise circumventing verification is a serious violation of these Terms and will result in account suspension or termination.

11. Enforcement and account actions

We reserve broad enforcement rights. If we reasonably believe you've violated these Terms, our content policies, or applicable law, we may remove or limit the visibility of content, restrict features on your account, suspend or permanently ban your account, or take legal action, generally without prior notice, and at our discretion. Banned accounts may not be recreated under a different identity. We may also suspend the Services, or any feature of them, for maintenance, security, or legal reasons.

12. Disclaimers

The Services are provided on an 'as is' and 'as available' basis. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure, and we make no representation about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any listing, profile, or content posted by users. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Campus Hub SA and its officers, employees, and partners will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or transactions arising from your use of the Services, including disputes between users. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under South African law.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Campus Hub SA harmless from any claim, loss, or demand, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your use of the Services, Your Content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another person or entity.

15. Intellectual property of Campus Hub SA

The Campus Hub SA name, logo, app, and underlying software are our property or that of our licensors, and these Terms do not grant you any right to use our trademarks, branding, or proprietary technology without our express written consent.

16. Account termination

You may stop using the Services and delete your account at any time from your profile settings. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services, with or without notice, for breach of these Terms, prolonged inactivity, legal risk, or because we no longer offer the Services in your region. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination, including Sections 4, 7, 12, 13, and 14, will continue to apply.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to the Services or to legal and regulatory requirements. We'll notify you of material changes in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use the Services after an update takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.

18. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Services is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts.

19. Contact

Questions about these Terms can be sent to our support team from the Help & Safety section of the app, or by email as listed in About Campus Hub.

Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and the control you have over it.

1. Information we collect

Account information: your name, email address, password, WhatsApp number, profile photo, bio, campus or city, and university affiliation if you verify as a student. Business information: store name, description, category, logo, banner, website, phone number, and operating hours, if you set up a business profile. Content: listings, listing photos, prices, bundles, reports you file, and messages you send through in-app chat. Usage information: actions like profile views, WhatsApp taps, and listing saves, which we use to show you analytics if applicable. Device and log information: technical data such as your approximate access times and basic device or browser details needed to keep the Services running securely.

2. How we use your information

We use your information to operate core features, including creating and displaying your listings, enabling messaging between buyers and sellers, showing your business store, and verifying student status. We use it to keep the platform safe, including reviewing reports, detecting fake accounts or scams, and enforcing these Terms. We use aggregated, non-identifying usage data to improve the app's features and performance. We use your contact details to send service notifications, such as messages, announcements, and account or moderation updates. We do not use your information to serve third-party advertising.

3. How we share your information

With other users, as part of the Services' normal operation: your name, profile photo, bio, and listings are visible to anyone using the app, and your WhatsApp number is shared with a buyer or seller when you choose to make contact. With service providers who help us host, maintain, and operate the platform, bound by confidentiality obligations and only to the extent needed to provide their service. For legal reasons, if required to comply with South African law, a court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Campus Hub SA, our users, or the public. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Data retention

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we need to retain limited records, for example, to resolve disputes, enforce a ban, or comply with a legal obligation. Your referral progress may be retained separately so it can be restored if you re-register with the same email.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies or local device storage to keep you signed in, remember basic preferences, and keep the Services secure. We do not use cookies for third-party advertising or cross-site tracking.

6. Your choices and rights

You can review and update most of your account and business information directly from your profile settings. You may delete individual listings, messages you control, or your entire account at any time. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting our support team. Deleting your account removes your public profile and listings, though some information may be retained as described in Section 4.

7. Children's privacy

Campus Hub SA is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will take reasonable steps to deactivate it and delete the associated personal information.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including password hashing and access controls. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to report any suspicious account activity right away.

9. International users

Campus Hub SA is built for the South African higher-education community and our infrastructure may process data outside South Africa where our hosting providers operate. Where this happens, we take steps to ensure your information continues to receive an appropriate level of protection.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our Services evolve or as legal requirements change. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use the Services afterwards means you accept the updated policy.

11. Contact

For privacy-related questions or requests, contact us through the Help & Safety section of the app or at the support email listed in About Campus Hub.
